Review of UNC Health Care

I've tried to write this review a dozen times now....

I've tried to write this review a dozen times now. It's difficult to put into words the rough rocky patch of road that cancer drags you down by both ankles. There is no easy or sunny way to describe the loss of a loved one taken by such a dreadful disease. I don't want this to be about that. What I want this to be about is the care and the care givers we were blessed to deal with during this most difficult time.

In the head spinning time frame of 19 days, we went from "this might be cancer" to the end of life preparations. The news was devastating and more tests found more cancer. At this time we as a family had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Moschos and Dr. Grant.

These professionals were in the position of telling a family that options were extremely limited but managed to do so in a fashion that was straight forward along with a bit of an education on the disease. Once we knew what we were up against, decision making was easy. Both doctors had a very compassionate bed side manner that made the worst news possible, easier to hear. Make no mistake, we were all devastated but what we didn't have to do is wade through any soggy false hope.
It was abundantly clear what we were up against and it was obvious that my sister in laws health was declining exactly as the good doctors said it would. The decision, our decision to take the route we needed to take was somehow more palatable.

I would also like to mention the quality of care my sister in law received from the RN and NA staff! Top notch, across the board! All of these people are in their chosen field because they want to be there. These were the most compassionate people I've ever met doing one of what has to be the hardest job on the planet.

As sad as I was for my family, I knew my sister in law was in the best hands in the business. The amount of comfort we all got from that was our only relief during this most difficult time.

My hat is off to these people. I dislike the word amazing because of its overuse but it is fitting regarding the care, compassion and professionalism I witnessed at this hospital. Absolutely amazing!
