Rose Carlson Review of AMC Theatres - Fenway

if you're a big movie goer, this is not the theater for you.
I'm one of those people who goes to the movies often. like at least once a month often, frequently more, alone or in huge groups I've gathered up to join me. I show up early, buy my ticket early, enter the theater early, I get good seats and I spend money on popcorn because hey, we all love sneaking in candy but as said, I love going to the movies and do know where theaters make their money.
this theater is the kind that's set up specifically to appeal only to one time movie goers. you know, the one who go once every few months, don't feel dealing w people and just want the convenience of a guaranteed ticket and seat.
translation: the only way to get a good seat here is to buy your ticket online ahead of time and pay more for the online "convenience fee" because there are assigned seats, and weird rules to go along with them besides.
my friends like this theater because it's nearby, got comfy seats (it does it gets full marks for comfort or this would be a 1 star review) so I've been here a lot and everytime, im annoyed unless we bought tickets for some event thing that required purchasing a month ahead.
example: went to see a movie that had been out for several weeks recently, late on a week day. weren't expecting a lot of fight for seats so we show up just on time instead of early for once. of course, we have to pick out seats as a we buy them cause god is dead and tho it's not a packed theater, literally everyone has bought their seats spaced away from each other. fine. we're paying for ourselves tho and the first person buys the best remaining seats. the next of us then couldn't buy the seat next to them because now, there aren't 2 spaces between us and the next group. we're forced to buy seats that aren't next to each other, sit together and hope no one buys their tickets even more last minute than us and claim one of the seats. someone shows up 10 mins after the movie has started and we were forced to move cause again, there is no God.
buying day of, hours a head of time? your seat sucks cause all decent seats are already sold out. buying to see a movie alone and still ok seats left cause you're not looking for multiple seats and next to each other? wait doesn't matter, you can't buy a seat if it only leaves one seat between you and the next person because they want people buying 2 tickets at a time and you still can only get the back or front row. buying tickets separately from your friend but at the same time? you cant because again, you can't leave a space between you and the next person so even if there's 2 spaces open, or even three, you can't both buy a seat because no there's only one empty space left and the system won't allow that. showing up spontaneously to see a movie day of hours ahead of time? still doesn't matter, all good seats sold out yesterday. the rules are stupid and specific and always a good seat requires extra money.
if you're fine spending for your guaranteed seat and buying either hours or a day before, this theater will be fine for you. it's very comfy, food and drink sizes are good. but im already dropping money on food and a ticket, why would I spend more money on the ticket when I know I wouldn't have to if I went literally anywhere else?
it's like yall designed this theater only for online ticketing and you really might have and I guess that works for yall but it sure doesn't work for me. for actual movie lovers and frequent movie viewers, stick to the commons theater. you'll always get a good seats no matter when you buy your ticket in person unless you're stupidly late to a busy film. I hope this theater one day fixes it's system but I doubt it will and I'll just keep encouraging my friends maybe not that theater, isn't it juuust enough out of the way of public transportation? let's just go to the commons yeah?
