Review of UNC Health Care

As a former employee of UNC Memorial Hospital's core laboratory, I cannot more strongly urge you to seek care ANYWHERE else. The negligence I witnessed here on a daily basis was astounding. Staff shortages cause avoidable problems with patient care constantly. Several significant problems with specimen/testing method integrity that I brought to my supervisor were ignored entirely, and inaccurate results continued to be reported. My supervisor actually told me "It's up to the doctors to question the results".

This entire institution is morally bankrupt, and believe me, the patient does NOT come first. Money comes first. Money spent on a fancy looking entrance with plenty of expensive landscaping. Meanwhile, there has been a "chair graveyard" in the core laboratory for over four years, where about 15 broken office chairs lie. The lab is so hot in some areas that employees are forced to roll up the sleeves of their lab coats, negating the coat's intended safety barrier. Several things in the lab are literally held together with scotch tape, because the funds are not there to properly fix them. UNC is all about the IMAGE of good healthcare.

I used to joke with fellow employees, saying that if I was shot on the steps of the UNC emergency department I would call an ambulance from Duke. Over time the 'joke' aspect of this comment dissolved.
