Jen W Review of URN/Optilan St Pancras Station...

So, my initial thoughts on the station, staff etc couldn't have been better, however this all changed on our return journey home.
We arrived with plenty of time spare, roughly 45 minutes before our train was due to depart. We got to the gate and saw that the train had been cancelled, no other information given other than cancelled.
Then after asking a few members of staff we were given various different answers to what we were to do/what was happening in regards to getting back home to leeds.
There had been a fire which had disrupted service ( I do understand that this cannot be helped) however this had happened earlier in the afternoon and they still had nothing organised for people.
All the members of staff told us different things to do.
One told us to go to kings cross to be put on a train to Leeds so we walked there waited to be then told that they had no idea why we were sent there as they wont help us.
We walked back to St Pancras to find sea of annoyed passengers all waiting for information that was not being properly communicated at any point.
There was no order, annoyed people, elderly stood for hours, people with young children, people with disabilities all crammed.
Eventually we were told we were to get a train which looking at the sea of people were not all going to get on said train.
Once the gates opened there was a stampede of people pushing running, crushing and knocking eachother.
We had first class tickets and as you can work out, all the train had been declassified..the train was full, people sat on the floor, in the aisles, elderly people couldn't sit down, children, people with disabilities etc who have paid for seats all crammed unsafe on the train.
Once moving the train manager kept people up to date with what was happening which was helpful if you were going anywhere other than leeds which is where we were heading.
So eventually he was asked and he was genuinely helpful and tried to find out for us what our options were as there was no option at this point, no-one had arranged anything.Upon his return he told us that there would be a train we could catch in nottingham but that it was only a 2 carriage train so we may/ may not get on it or it could be extremely full but this train would then take another 3 and a half hours to get to leeds basically our only option.
So we stood from london all the way to Nottingham despite paying for first class and then managed to get a train to leeds which was busy again but as we all had work the following day at 7am, we had to arrange for a family member to drive all the way to Sheffield to come and pick us up as this was the quicker option for us, luckily we were able to.
Very disappointing service. Again I understand the fire could not be helped, but organisation, communication and respect for passengers was more than lacking.
Very disappointing.
