Today, I came here for my first migraine infusion ...

Today, I came here for my first migraine infusion treatment. My nurse, Amanda, was friendly and quickly eased my nerves. She explained potential side effects of the medicines I was administered and made me feel comfortable. As a headache patient in this center, I was given my own room with a bed and a door-sized curtain that completely closed the room off from the hallway. There's a floor to ceiling window on one side with panels that let in as much or as little light as you want during your stay.

There is guest WI-FI available (and it has the ability to stream Netflix), charging outlets galore, and there's a television on the wall with a remote control. Snacks and drinks (coffee) are available in a room just down the hall. I didn't have any my first day, but they mentioned ginger ale, cheez-its, pretzels, luna bars, yogurt, and soup. My mom was able to stay with me the whole time and enjoy the snacks there as well. They don't provide lunch here (besides soup) but you can bring your own or have someone bring you something from a nearby restaurant or from home.

In my case, the first two meds I was administered made me drowsy, made my body feel weak, and made me realize there was no way I could actually get anything productive done during my stay. I was slurring my words and my arms and face felt heavy. One of the later meds caused extreme nausea and a bad migraine, which resulted in me vomiting into one of those ugly pink bins. Ladies and gents, BRING A HAIR TIE or a friend to hold the hair back. After that incident, my nurse assured me she would call my doctor about lessening the dosage of that medicine for my next round of treatment to hopefully decrease the severity of those side effects. Again, loved my nurse here.

If you're heading in for a headache or migraine infusion treatment here soon, you're in great hands. They provide you with a blanket, but I'd recommend bringing one from home anyways. Also, wear comfy clothes. You'll feel tired from the meds and I recommend allowing your body to sleep. so you're not awake when the headache-and- vomit-inducing medicine kicks in.
