I purchased a new car from Toyota of Seattle. The experience of buying a car was fine. Nothing terrible or exceptional about the experience.
I lost my key for the 2016 vehicle that I bought from the dealership. I called the dealership to request a replacement key. The quoted price was $190 for the fob portion of the key, $90 for the key portion and $150 to program it which the service team said would take 2 hours.
After doing some research online through reputable distributors like Northstar Keyless, I determined that I could replace the fob portion of the key for $50. Service providers like Batteries Plus Bulbs will provide the programming service for $40.
I find it absolutely dumbfounding that a customer of your dealership would be subject to 370% price gouging. I fully understand that after market key distributors are probably not as reliable as ordering through the dealership, but I bought the key through Northstar Keyless on Amazon so I am protected by their return policy.
Not only did Toyota of Seattle provide a terrible experience to someone who bought a car at their dealership, they lost a customer when I choose to buy my next vehicle.
