We booked a studio apartment which had the bedroom and kitchen as one room. The kitchen were very small with a microwave, cutlery, kettle and cupboards with a washing basin. Hot water at the kitchen were not available though. The room itself was not set up practical in every respect with the wardrobe far too small, as a matter of fact the smallest of all the hotels I went to before with not even enough space for 1 person. The lamp on the one side of the bed were very far from the bed and exceptionally high. My wife simply could not reach it to switch on or off so we changed sides for her sake.
We were disappointed in the towels they provided that it was not always as clean as expected. Unfortunately there is an extractor fan in the bathroom that makes quite a bit of noise and cannot be switched off separately.
Upon our arrival, at reception we were given a card to our room and parking. The card did not open the parking boom and I needed to return to reception to have it corrected. When we reached our room, the card did not open our room. We asked for assistance from one of the security personnel which tried in vain for about 20 minutes or more. Later during the week, the card stopped functioning again and I needed to return it to reception again. By this time they have provided us with 3 cards already.
With our arrival at our room, we discovered that the hotel were conducting maintenance to some rooms next to us. Workers were constantly in front of our sea view door and building material were occasionally dumped in front of or studio apartment spoiling the view and making things uneasy to us in terms of security and privacy. The door to the outside patio did not have a key either and could only be locked from the inside rendering it useless when wanting to exit via the patio. We inquired about a key and hotel personnel explained that the maintenance manager was not on site and they could not be of assistance to us until he is available the next day. The manager of the hotel were also not present, but did phone us, however, he had quite an attitude and were unwilling to be of any assistance to us the same day. It was very clear to us that if one staff member is absent, there is no one else to perform his/her duties. Management at the hotel is truly of a low standard. The hotel personnel present was friendly though, but they could not act because of the absence of key personnel.
What was maybe more surprising to me of all, was that neither the information brochure nor any note at the telephone in the room provided any information as to how to contact reception from the room. This was the very first time in all of my traveling s to any hotel or guest house that none of that information was provided. I needed to contact reception one evening late from my room and it was then that I found out this discrepancy. It cost me to go to reception late the evening for something that could be resolved by just phoning them from the room. To my surprise they did not seem surprised or deterred in anyway by me mentioning this to them, as a fact it looked as if they thought it is normal. The safe in the room also had no instruction note explaining how to use it at all and we just decided that we had enough contact with reception so far and will rather try and avoid going there again, so we decided to not use the safe.
Our own decisions as to how to deal with issues and ignoring some problems made us to still enjoy our time. Unfortunately one expects more and was it not for these issues and management incompetence, we could have rated this as a great stay for us. The hotel restaurant was also nothing special and after using it once, we decided to go out and rather eat somewhere else. Waiters were very unprofessional, slow service with lack of quality of food.
In my opinion, try and see if you can find another hotel in the area at the beachfront, it might be worth it to pay a little more even. If not, it remains an option, though not the first choice for me again.
