An opportunity to adopt an animal, any animal, at the shelter can come with mixed results. Our first experience was just that. The process seemed complete, with an orderly check in, followed with an interview with an animal placement counselor. When the dog we selected was not available, the counselor suggested a different dog. The Jendo seemed nice and was warm to me, my wife, and my 8 year old. Unfortunately, after about two months, the Jendo exhibited behaviors that could not be lived with. Biting my youngest daughter and even my wife and also nipping at other small children made keeping the dog impossible. Returning the dog to the shelter was difficult but necessary. When speaking to the folks that accept animals that are returned, she shared more of the history and behaviour about the Jendo that was not shared by the animal counselor. This indicated a big disconnect. I would do things differently the next time by looking, selecting, and doing more research before actually taking an animal home. Rescuing an animal is a great thing to do but make sure that it's a good match for you and the animal.
