My mother was admitted for rehab from home due to falls. At time of admission we went over her correct medication list multiple times and finally I signed her final list.
while I was visiting her, nurse asked her for pain Med and she said give me Tylenol please ,next thing the nurse came in room and told her I have hydrocodone for you 10/325.
She went to rehab from home due to falls and dizziness and at home she has never been on opioids or on benzos.I was very upset that how come a 70 yr old opioid naive patient is on 10 mg of hydrocodone when she doesn t take it at all at home and doesn t have too much pain and is not acute post op from a major surgery.I requested to see her Med list and found out that she was on norco 10mg every 4hrs prn pain and norco 20 mg every 6 hrs prn pain. She was also on temazepam 30 mg prn at night. She doesnt take Temazepam at home as well.Giving opioids and benzos together to a 70 yr old opioid naive patient when there is a FDA black box warning and CDC warning against concurrent use of opioids and benzos is criminal negligence.Just such high dose of opioids to a 70 ur old opioid naive could be life threatening.Upon further investigation I found out that at night she was given hydrocodone 10 mg and in morning she was given 20mg of hydrocodone and that s why she was dizzy all day.
This is very dangerous practice and this rehab should be investigated before it causes serious damage to patients and cause some lives.I talked with the physician and nurse manager Alex Kiume as I wanted to file a formal complaint.
Alex told me to send him an email and someone will reach out to me.
No one has reached out to me nor I was given paper work to file formal complaint.
Seems like Alex asked me to send him the email so he can then delete it.
