I'm giving the hotel 3.5 stars, the RED Bar would get a 1.5.
The design of the entry point is artistic and draws you in with its concrete and vine. It is a show stopper. Sadly, that aesthetic doesn't follow you beyond the entry. The hallways on the actual room floors, and room in which we stayed, LOOKS outdated. Neither matches the awe inspiring focal point of the Hyatt with their odd red/yellow/green patterns and mismatching furniture types but the rooms are very clean and offer quite modern in amenities as far as coffee machine and tv go.
We stayed in one of the Executive Suites and for the amount we paid, you would think it would be an actual suite. It was nothing more than a generic room that you would find at any other hotel but with access to the Recency Club. The room was not the posh experience I had been sold on, which I won't lie, bummed me out a bit. I only get one vacation a year with my chaotic career and I had hoped to make this one as grand as possible. I splurged on the room thinking it would be glamorous and almost movie like, as it was I was lead to expect.
The Regency Club does offer a nice breakfast spread, but if you have food allergies, as I do, it is very dangerous. The same pair of serving utensils are used for multiple bread items, many containing nuts. They serve fish in a dish the is near the other meat, which on two of the days shared the same pair of tongs. Unfortunately there isn't a way to request food that may not have been cross contaminated that I could find. The women hosting Breakfast were kind and apologetic, but it does leave very little to eat as far as options go.
Be prepared to pay for parking. It doesn't matter how much you paid for your room, parking is around $35 a day I believe. We flew in for the comic convention and paid $25 with the convention discount.
The RED bar, the Friday of the comic convention, was packed to the point where we sat on a small stuffed chair and ate from an ottoman, in spite of the fact that there was an entire section that could have sat all of us eating in similar situations. The section was closed and no reason was given as to why they wouldn't open it. We had to eat just above floor level while people bummed and moved around us. Everyone in the same position all requested to be sat in the table section, but was denied. The cost of the food does not match the quality. The burgers are bland and flavorless, the fries are basic. The steak was not at all seasoned well and was decent at best. The sides are generic. You would be better suited to walk to the restaurants three blocks away. It will save you money, give you bigger portions, and give you a seat at a table. I suggest the Five Roses Pub. We ate dinner there twice.
Those are really the only issues that I had. The bed was fantastic and so unbelievably comfortable. There is a walk way directly into the convention center which allows for comfortable and safe traveling to and fro. The staff is all so kind and positive, without it feeling forced or fake.
