I just checked into "Sand Dollar 112" about two hours ago. For the price (just shy of $600 for the week), I'm moderately happy with it. Normally I stay at a mom and pop motel just up the road when I'm in New Smyrna on vacation. This units setup is about the same as the mom-n-pops 'motel' style room but at a cheaper price point for the week (motel is about $100/n). I would've liked this to be an actual 1BR as listed, not an efficiency style, but it's still cheaper than my regular.
You can definitely tell that this is an older building from the construction style and general wear and tear. You can also tell that they've made an effort to keep it mostly in good working condition.
-------------------
The pluses:
It has a kitchen with a stove, full size sink, plenty of drawers and a microwave. It also has silverware, pots/pans, plates/bowls, and all sorts of kitchen wares including a toaster, coffee pot and a BLENDER! There's even some cleaning supplies.
The bed is a 'murphy' style, but I haven't tried to fold it up yet...I might before the week is out, might not. Plenty of pillows, and extra sheets in a cupboard.
Tons of storage built into the bed, with a set of drawers next to it. There's even shelves. Very nice!
There's a ceiling fan, and the A/C even has a remote!
There's a unit specific wifi router (even though I brought my own). I wont use it, so cant comment on speed.
There's a small stereo system. It's on-par with "90's high schoolers bedroom" but it's way better than a clock-radio! There's also a TV, and DVD player to round out the entertainment.
There's a nice screened-in front porch with blinds on it, it's smallish but this is a smaller unit meant for a single or double occupancy, so it's perfect.
There's little 'homey' touches such as pictures, and tin art.
Looks fairly recently painted, a seafoam green that definitely feels 'beachy'.

Most of my negatives could be cleared up with about 2 hours worth of minor work and about $100. Definitely not deal breakers by any means, just noting them for completions sake.
Negatives:
The TV is small, like 19" and has the volume locked to a max of 'just audible'. If you have hearing problems, you wont be able to hear it that well.
No room phone?!?! There's a jack for one, but no phone. Not a huge deal in the age of cellphones, but still.
The screen-door closer thing is barely attached to the door frame. Needs someone to screw it back into the frame.
There are very few electrical outlets. Not much to be done here, it's just how things were done when the place was built. If you bring a surge protector power strip from home, you'll be fine. If you buy one, get the longest cord you can so you can put the strip where you want it. 6' or 8' should be fine...just don't get the ones that provide more outlets only at the existing outlet...they're positioned poorly.
No alarm clock that I can find. Easy $10 fix. Had I known, I'd have brought one from home and just left it. I have 4 or 5 for no reason at all. I'll have to use my phone I suppose.
No curtains on the main windows...with sunrise at 6:30AM, I'd better go to bed early! Black out curtains from walmart are about $25/set and the rods are like $2.
The fridge is tiny, way smaller than a weekly rental should have! It's overnight motel room sized at best. Honestly have no idea where they'd put a larger one.
The shower sucks. It goes from lava, to ice water several times during a shower.
The room is setup like a plus-sized hotel room, so it should have at least a $50 walmart laptop desk. I'm typing this using my actual lap as a laptop desk...laptops are not really meant for laps, they're friggin hot!
-------------------
There's definitely places that it could be improved, but for the target market (cheapskates like me) it's appropriately set up.
The deducted stars are for the combined negatives as well as the extra late check-in time (4pm) and early-ish check-out (10am) and the wonky shower. I wont stay in 112 again because of the shower!
