Alan Ging Review of Liverpool Everyman and Playhou...
In the beginning there was the Everyman, a friend...
In the beginning there was the Everyman, a friendly, comfortable theatre, rebuilt in the 1960s, & the Everyman bistro in the basement. The former was excellent, and produced many great productions (& actors), while the latter was an essential cornerstone of many nights out.
The second rebuild has produced a truly great performance space and has managed to balance comfort for the audience and a stylish design. The only slight caveat concerns the bar. It's more accessible and comfortable, but lacks the "Stalinist soup kitchen" charm of the earlier bistro.
Perhaps the latest edition just needs a little loving?
