My father was placed here after an ER visit to regain his strength. While in the ER his CT showed no signs of stroke. However, while in their care he had symptoms of a stroke which went undetected by the doctor, who saw him daily for 12 days according to the staff. These same symptoms went undetected by all nurses, rehab and all staff here. I was on vacation when he was admitted. But, when I returned I noticed these symptoms myself at this point he had been in rehabilitation for almost a week. His head always down, eyes closed and the inability to hold his head up. Inability to walk without maximum assistance or some days not at all and staying in bed. At this point the case manager told me they were releasing on Monday. This was on Friday. I was frightened and expressed my concern that he was so far from his baseline. She moved his release by 1 day to Tuesday and I hustled to get 24 hour care set up at home. Worried all that time about what was going on. Tuesday, I noted to the nurse he had slurred speech, or aid whichever it was, and that fell on deaf ears. They proceeded with his discharge and I felt helpless. Essentially he went from rehabilitation to the ER within a few hours of his release from Encompass and was diagnosed with a cerebral bilateral stroke that was old as the bleeding and swelling had stopped. This stroke that was not detected on the CT 12 days before now shows on the CT and confirmed with an MRI. 12 days without any medical personnel recognizing he had a stroke? Please avoid this rehabilitation hospital if at all possible. If they can't see what a non medical or lay person can see and it is scary!
