First off, to all the people who give this place a bad rating, it is an intense program and hard to get in contact of a family member....that's only because they are truly trying to help patients with coping skills and getting them on a regular schedule. Certain people can cause harm to a patient and they try their best to make sure harm isn't done to their patients. (If a family member is being abusive to them, they need to make sure what the patients fears are before they allow anyone to communicate with them) I do believe they need Doctors 24/7 to make sure medications can be properly dispensed due to the needs of each patient. It is very crucial to get your usual meds-at night and for pain management. Or If a patient can prove their RXs via photos of their RX bottles when they check in and have that be a standing order until the both medical and psych doc can see the patient, then that would be fair in my opinion. It was very unpleasant arriving there at night when no doctor was available to prescribe medication for sleep or pain. I literally felt like I was dying after being discharged from the ER (both Memorial and Penrose Hospitals).....ERs suck BIG time when it comes to mental health issues. They treated me very poorly.....but when I arrived at Peak View and finally was able to speak to both types of doctors I was finally given adequate cate. I got more good than bad out of it. Mental Health is a thin line when it comes to treatment....it all depends on the patient-the individual they are treating. Not everyone is the same. They acknowledge that. Communication is a key part to getting better and being able to get discharged. I have a medical health backround as well....however my own health got in the way and I am now disabled. Peak View hadany types of activities to help people cope and understand their issues and figure out what their needs were. I can see both points of view: The Patients and the Staff. Healthcare in all ways is way under staffed....everyone does what they can do....some may come across as not caring or mean....guess what?! Even doctors are human too! Wow! Really??? Yes really people! We ALL go through turmoil in life....sadly certain people bring their issues to work and it ends up in crappy care sometimes....we all forget that everyone is going through something. Some may show it more than others. Yes, it does not mean they need to be mean or mess up patients meds etc. But they are doing their best to treat patients. When I was there, I knew of some homeless patients that were being treated....they helped them for as long as they needed. I did not see any unfairness...as in health insurance fraud....but that was jus my experience. I try my best to keep an open mind; know that no one is perfect. At least this place gives out pain medication when a patient has a legitimate prescription or need. I have been in Cedar Springs once and I never got help with my pain there....at least Peak View cares enough to help patients out with their pain when it's truly needed. And I'm sorry....but pain meds are NOT bad when taken properly. If someone abuses those types of meds; it's their own fault and no one else's. Why can't people get that?!?!? Now people like me suffer because of other people's stupidity. All in all I give this place 4 stars. I had great people taking care of me in this facility. Yes, their were some that could work on their bedside manner etc. And I'm sorry....but the food is absolutely HORRIBLE!!!! But at least they offer food. Lol! You all need to look at the bright side of things for once. Stop being so minimally minded....be patient....keep love in your heart....listen....learn....life is too short to always look at the negative in life. Peak Viee is most definitely better than Cedar Springs. And most definitely way better than any mental hospital used to be way back in the day. I do respect everyone's views of this place, I'm only saying to keep an open mind....try your best to be in everyone's shoes.....maybe I'm more understanding than most.
