Kay T. Jewels Review of The Palms South Beach
I am currently staying at the Palms Hotel and Spa ...
I am currently staying at the Palms Hotel and Spa now. I picked this place among others because it s well rated, has a private beach, pool, and has a good location. A major positive was the staff was friendly. When I arrived, the bellman took my bags, I tipped him 20 bucks, and started to unpack. I am not quite sure why, maybe it s the size room I ordered or even their standard practice (I officially don t know) but the owner immediately sent me a bottle of wine and a card. I do not think many of the negative comments made above and before this one were true. For example, I have a respiratory allergy to cockroach and I would be sick and unable to breathe if this building had them. Though I did see one cockroach in the alley beside the hotel-outside was the only place I saw bugs at all-and that is normal in Florida or hot climates. Additionally, Alexander at the Tiki Bar was just as helpful as the concierge was at finding restaurants with food my child my like and I wasn t allergic to. The bartenders inside made my drink right, remembered how to make it and always made me feel comfortable. When my daughter did not like the tacos from inside restaurant (because she thought they were going to made with hamburger meat not steak) the waitress noticed she did not like it and took it off our bill. I think the flags on the back of the chairs at the beach worked better than flags that are not attached to chairs at other resorts and only fly off the table every two minutes. And, I did find the staff on the beach to be attentive, even to the fact that I could not get my flag to stay up at first, so he came showed me how to use it and it was fixed. So, now that I ve said a bunch of nice things: here is where I got frustrated.. the housekeeping was pretty confusing and inconsistent here. I m not sure why this happened and maybe I was confused; most times they came while we were in the room. Even when I left the service light on, left for the day, and came back that evening they did not come until it was time for turn down service. The next day I found a card in my room, like the one they gave me, but it was someone else s card from a room on the fourth floor. This made me feel really weird because it was not there before we left that day, and the house keeping had not come yet. So I went and gave it to the lady at the front desk, I told her, though it was probably from a housekeeper, no housekeeping had been done that day. after that the house keeping became even more inconsistent and weird. Like, I called down for the house keeping to come, while I was at the beach. The lady comes and tells my daughter (15) she cannot clean the room while she is on there and then arranged to come back at 5:30. So I actually had to find a place to sit for 45 mins so she had time to come and clean. Even though me and my family left for the purpose of her coming to clean when we arrived back she still did not come. Then a lady arrived for turn down service, but the beds were never made to begin with so the night lady ended up making the beds for us. Additionally, while returning to my room tonight, I was trying to use me key to get elevator go up when a plastic cup fell out of my hand and I spilled a drink in the elevator. There are phones in front of the elevator for service at every floor. So I called from that phone when I get off the elevator, 5 times, to get someone to come and help clean it up. No one answered. I realize it s 4 am but I was just downstairs there are people down there, cleaning, so I go to my room to call every extension they give on the phone that might help (at your room service, housekeeping, front desk) after 20 mins of getting no where I decided I would call the hotel from my own phone. Still no answer. So I decided to write the review, so they know I tried to get help to clean up the spill in the elevator. The only disappointment I had was the 1 time I called 24hour room service it was extremely limited.
