My husband and I made reservations at the Berkeley...

My husband and I made reservations at the Berkeley Hotel last week, and the experience was a mixed bag. The lobby felt charming, old-timey, and sophisticated, which paired beautifully with the historic Shockoe slip surroundings. The beds were big and comfortable and very clean. However, it didn't meet the level of luxury we were expecting, and the rooms felt quite outdated (but not in a sweet vintage way), and they didn't have a mini fridge which felt unusual. The reason I give 3 stars instead of 4 is because of the unhelpful desk attendant, Keonna. When we called to ask about parking- a very common FAQ for hotels, especially for one located in a downtown area- she said "I wouldn't know about that". Not only did she not have the knowledge, but she didn't offer to find out an answer or look into it. Furthermore, our room only had one robe, so we called down and requested another one. She said there wasn't much supply of robes, so we had to explain why we wanted a 2nd one for a 2nd person and requested one be sent up if possible. She said she'd look into it but never got back to us, even to tell us that she couldn't find one. The desk attendant in the morning was helpful and courteous, like night and day. I don't know that we will be coming back.
