My niece almost died at this hospital recently. She had a scheduled hysterectomy and it turned into a disaster. A 4 hr surgery turned into 10 hrs because her gyn (Dr. Hughes) ruptured her bladder. She remained open for an hour before they got a trauma surgeon to repair it. Then a few days later she was vomiting bile and was in great pain. Meanwhile, they were trying to transport her to Columbia Presbyterian in NYC which became a problem in itself because they didn't want to be responsible for another hospital's wrongdoings. On top of it all, she developed "ICU delerium" which was very traumatic for the whole family. She became unresponsive, and wouldn't sleep or eat. She was finally transferred to Columbia Presbyterian 3 days later. They immediately found that her bowels were ruptured. At this point her lungs were also filling with fluid and they had to intubate her. They had to go back in, repair her bowels and remove part of her intestines. She was septic. At this hospital they couldn't believe what had happened to her and said the other hospital shouldn't have waited to do anything when she was vomiting bile. She could have died. On top of it all, the ER and ICU doctors were unprofessional, and extremely rude to her family. At one point when my niece was in so much pain "Dr. George" asked, "What do you want us to do, "Put her on life support?" Her gyn admitted that she made a mistake. Columbia Presbyterian treated my niece and her whole family with dignity, were very attentive to my niece and helpful to the family. In order to post this I had to give a rating. I gave one star. But Lawrence Hospital doesn't even deserve one star.
