Josh Robinson Review of West Cumbria Mining

It's such a shame to see comments such as 'fed up of climate activists' ruining jobs. Firstly, let's make it very clear that if we don't get our act together in protecting our home, earth - we will be facing mass extinction. We are currently using up 1.5 earth worth of carbon, that half an earths more than the maximum. Adding to this is not only unacceptable, it's un-logical. This is not a local issue this mine, it's a global one. The effect of this will effect the whole world, it's biodiversity and everyone on it. It's time companies stop thinking about money and thinking about how best to protect our planet and the people on it.
The jobs situation: Whilst we all understand the frustration that there are little jobs and a lower employment rate in Cumbria, and this is a chance to boost jobs and economy, we need to see the bigger picture. We have seen the change in weather destroying communities across the globe and in the U.K. - think about the thousands of jobs lost in these terrible situations, the loss of lives and the emotional loss. There are so many renewable alternatives that can revolutionise the industry and offer so many jobs.
This coal mine will be 85% exported and every extra tonne of coal willl drive down costs and drive up emissions. The European Steel Industry have stated that electric arc furnaces are well in the making for creating coal and these are suspected to be available very soon with the appropriate funding.
My last point is that as we drive our biodiversity to the ground, we will see more pandemics, more weather destroying our communities, more extinction of our wildlife and everything on the planet including ourselves will begin to perish. This is not the time to be screwing with the earth.
