TLDR: They intentionally convolute the conversation, so you don't know what you are paying for. THE LESS YOU KNOW, THE LESS YOU CARE, and THE MORE THEY CAN SCREW YOU OVER. They want you to be uninformed.

I saw a used car online that I loved that was slightly above my price range. I called Ray's, and I told them that I needed my out-the-door price to be X. I was told by Ryan and Donny that was possible and spent a day going back and forth with them on details. I paid a deposit to reserve the car and asked Ryan to send me an email confirming what we had worked out. He didn't, and I was unable to get a hold of him the following day. (Which is more than inconvenient considering I was supposed to drive four hours to pick up the car that day.)

I called the dealership and spoke with Oliver. He pulled up my file and told me the interest rate they are offering me: a staggering 4% higher than any other offers. I once again asked for an email with the financial details of the car and was told that my price of X is actually the price of the car MINUS my 23% down payment and my trade in. I explained that's not what I agreed to. He said he would call me back. He didn't.

I finally got a hold of Ryan, and he denied ever agreeing to a price the previous day. (Explains why he never sent it in writing.) It shouldn't be this complicated to get a price.. or an email.. or a call back. I shouldn't have to beg you to tell me what exactly you are selling me. I am not talking monthly payments or interest rates here. That's a separate conversation from what I am willing to pay for a car. They intentionally convolute the conversation, so you don't know what you are paying for. THE LESS YOU KNOW, THE LESS YOU CARE, and THE MORE THEY CAN SCREW YOU OVER. They want you to be uninformed.
