My 2006 pilot started failing while driving, battery light came on and there was a thudding and difficulty when pressing the gas. Had the car towed to sheehy Honda since that is the only place we have brought the car to since we moved to Alexandria. They gave us the quote to replace alternator and driving belt- $850. We were desperate to have the car as soon as possible and agreed without doing our research (HUGE MISTAKE). After calling around town, we found out that we could get a used/ remanufactured alternator cheaper and called back to ask for that hoping it would get the price down. We were informed, "Yes the original quote was with a used part". Didn't appreciate the lack of transparency there, and am still not sure how a used alternator came out to $419.82. More importantly, labor came out to $345. There was no break down of how much per hour you are paying for in labor nor is there any mention how long the job took. Further research online indicated these two parts shouldn't take more than an hour and half to replace. I also found on repair pal that the average labor for these two replacements are: driving belt $70-89 and alternator $79-100. We called an auto repair on King street and they quoted the same exact job at $450. Needless to say, it's best to look around and do your research before agreeing to any repairs at sheehy Honda. We were charged a total of $850, but found a coupon that got the price down to $731.04 (15% off parts I think it was). Also, I wanted to add that the experience before this one where we had an oil change and airbag recall replacement, they presented us with a list of other fixes we needed including a new oil pan for over $1000 because "the bolt was stripped", well, guess who stripped the bolt? SHEEHY HONDA. Took it to a local shop when we were back in Ohio and they gave us an oversized drain plug for less than $10, saving us hundreds. Anyway, my overall perception is that there is a lack of transparency with their customers and that they are out to make money. I would not recommend this service center and would implore everyone to research local repair shops instead.
