On September 24, 2020 at approximately 7:44pm my Wife Kayla gave birth to our beautiful baby boy nicknamed KC. The entire time we were not treated with respect. Our stay was made uncomfortable by nursing staff due to Covid 19 restrictions. My wife tested positive downstairs and from that moment on she was treated horrible. We informed the staff that she s just had a recent negative test to return back to work. We were told by staff that it could possibly be a false positive. She was taken upstairs to a delivery room where we remained the entire stay. We had limited contact with assigned nurses for over 48 hours. We were treated as if no one wanted to come into contact with her. The contractions were coming fast and she asked for an epidural and the Anesthesiologist requested that the room be purified before he made entry into our room. The nurse put the air purifier inside and disappeared for hours before return. The Anesthesiologist came inside and he was very rude. He didn t not greet us at all and ultimately was unable to to give the meds due to her initial blood drawn downstairs was misplaced. He covered the medicine up with a towel and left until the nurses drew blood a second time and get results. This entire time myself of my wife hadn t complained once. We got some happiness when our child was born. However my wife and son received the worst care possible with the least amount of contact with nursing staff. Certain nurses entered the room 1 or 2 times within a 10/12 hour shift. They would make assumptions regarding my baby boys breathing. Taking uneducated guesses as to what could be wrong. Never did the pediatrician come to check on him when called the first night. He came around day 2 but was very unorganized and did not explain anything to us at all. We both felt as if no staff wanted to be inside our room due to a possible false Covid 19 test. We asked the staff if we could turn the Purifier off inside the room due to it being very loud and disturbing the baby and giving my wife a headache. We were told by nursing staff that it was policy for it to run. I asked for whoever was in charge and the charge nurse told us that it was okay. None of the staff knew the actual policy. It wasn t until I threatened to voluntarily take my wife and child to another hospital before discharged that service changed a little. Nursing staff was very rude and made us both feel as if we were inconveniencing them due to my wife maybe having Covid 19. We didn t receive the same services as other inside the hospital being the PA notary for our child s birthday certificate refused to come to our room and we didn t receive that service at all. We were told that due to my wife being Covid positive they would have no contact and there was no alternative. We were told that we would have to do a Paternity Acknowledgment form on our own and get it notarized and send off to the appropriate office. This made the last name of my child and also me being the father not on his confirmation of birth. So on paper it looks like she I was not there at all. I asked to speak to someone in charge of the hospital and they sent a woman who started she was staff management however this wasn t her floor and she was filling in. She listened to our concerns and we finally received a better nurse named Trudy. I did an online request to speak with a director of the hospital and spoke to a direct assistant. I was told that I would be contacted as soon as possible however have not been contacted yet. The fact that this is a hospital and they deal with all types of patients is beyond me that we were treated in this way. You shouldn t have any staff that isn t trained on wearing PPE inside the hospital anywhere. No one should be treated or even feel like they re a burden due to any medical reason yet alone Covid who the CDC or anyone on your staff knows nothing about. It is discriminatory for any party paying the same amount of money for a service to be refused due to a positive test in a hospital. The patient should never be treated differently at all.
