This is a short version of my encounter today. Its not necessary to drag it out painful inch by painful inch. You'll get the idea.
I was having extreme pain in my lower back on each side. The area of the kidneys all morning long. After a few jolts of pain blinding me I decided it was time to go to the hospital. ER was packed, didn't really care I figured they would triage me pretty quickly, the pain was evident, i was dripping sweat had to be put in a wheelchair, etc. I was OK as long as I wasn't moving. I was given a urine sample cup, which I took care, and kept with me in the waiting area. At some point, I wasn't really watching the clock, an IV was put in my arm and they started to give me fluids. Blood was taken later all the while, no movement was made. After 8 hours I finally said something and that was when I was told their computers were down all day and the were frozen and could not operate. It was horrible. I should have been informed and not just me, everyone and at that point being informed we could have made choices for ourselves to decide whether or not we wanted to stay and I wait. It's also a shame that a hospital in this day and age is completely reliant upon their computers and no one was able to flip the switch, back to the olden ways, and get stuff done.
I went into Lawrence today, hoping that by NY Presbyterian taking over things would have been better than my last encounters there, of which there have been a few, I was wrong, they have reached a new level of horrible. Absolutely the worst and everyone should be held accountable.
