This has to be the most unprofessional, incompetent county office in the state. First of all, they don't return phone calls. If you do manage to get through to a worker, they will probably be rude. The worker I was transferred to answered the phone with an abrupt, "HELLO?!" as if I had interrupted her conversation with a friend, and she was annoyed that she had to do her job. She didn't introduce herself, or anything. I could tell by her attitude that she wouldn't call me back as promised. Second, they will take up until the last minute to process your application, even if you bring everything they need to intake. In my case, they have twice even gone beyond the time limit they have to process, and when I finally got my approval, it was for the wrong amount. Then, I had to request a hearing, and I'm still waiting for a phone call in that regard. I am disabled and have a child, and my pantry is empty. I have worked hard for decades, paid my taxes, and this situation is disgusting me. I don't care what kind of workload they have. I was a caseworker myself in Wake county years back, and we were always overworked, but I treated my clients with respect and processed applications and reviews in a timely manner, knowing how much the families needed assistance. I think it's time to call a higher authority.
