It's Disney, but it's not. A lot of folks have mentioned that there's certain amenities you get from other Disney resorts that you don't have here. No super late room services and things shut down rather early. I do rather enjoy that they do have a lot to offer on property.
You can even walk across the street to a pretty decent restaurant and cafe place. The prices are Disney prices, but overall, the cost of things in Hawai'i is expensive so coming from Seattle, it wasn't much of a sticker shock.
The one weird thing here is that the cleaning staff will come in to clean even if you have the sign up on the door. We came in one night and found the garbage emptied and our bath mat was taken, but not replaced. Others noticed that and had to create a hand written sign that says DO NOT DISTURB. This is probably my biggest complaint here so far. The cleaning staff will ask you if they see you in the hallway if you want the room cleaned. But in most cases, I have never seen them come in and do partial cleaning and not replace anything. Even at WDW resorts the staff practically hunts you down to sign a waiver and/or leaves a VM on your room's phone letting you know.
The views are pretty stunning and with it being so close to the water it's pretty amazing. Obviously be prepared for the cost that comes with a Disney venture, but don't expect it to be a total Disney experience. The character dinning's are here and Mickey and Minnie do make random appearances. But if you're coming here thinking it will be like coming to WDW or WDL than you might be that much let down. But don't come here for that. Come for the beach, sand, and relaxation that the place does provide!
