We love going to this little place. Has a fun, energetic vibe! Also has more veggie and vegan options than most cafes in Harrisonburg. Unfortunately, I can no longer take the vegan breakfast foods they serve. However their Mexican food is great and can be made vegan.
I just wish this co-op included someone with a little more knowledge of how to prepare delicious, HEALTHY food. If you go here for breakfast, be prepared for eating some heavy, high-fat food and virtually no fruit or veggies to help offset all that fat.
For vegans, their tofu "scramble" is flavorful, but it is really cubed tofu that has been heavily seasoned and fried. Nothing like the moist, lightly sauteed tofu scramble recipes I make at home that have lots of healthy chopped veggies mixed in. What wouldn't I give to be served a breakfast like that!
Their side of soysage is a heavy, sticky patty that tastes too much like mushed up turkey dressing. Even the way they served my Everything Bagel today was way too heavy! It was brushed with butter or Earth Balance and then flattened and cooked on the grill - far too long. This was first time I've ever had a grilled bagel! Very disappointing.
This is really just how they like their food, though, so I did not complain. All their vegan breakfast foods disappoint me bc they leave me feeling fat and heavy after I eat them. Really need some fruit to lighten them up!
I had their buckwheat pancakes the other day, and they were way too thick ( 3/4") and really heavy and pasty. No amount of Earth Balance or real maple syrup could help them go down easily. Just sticks to the mouth. Ugh!
They are very vegan-friendly at TLG, so my hubby and I will continue eating here, just not for breakfast! Instead, we'll go when they are serving authentic Mexican food, which can be made vegan for us. Used to be served just once a week. Not sure now, but hope more often. THAT food was truly delicious!
