Hotel Majapahit is a historic luxury hotel on Jala...

Hotel Majapahit is a historic luxury hotel on Jalan Tunjungan, Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. Formerly it was called LMS, then Hotel Oranje and then Hotel Yamato and also Hotel Hoteru. Currently, the Majapahit Hotel which was built in 1910 by the Sarkies Brothers from Armenia has turned into a five-star luxury hotel with a total of 143 rooms on the first and second floors. This hotel was managed by the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group from 1993 to 2006. In 2006, this hotel was acquired by PT Sekman Wisata. Most of the original buildings of the hotel can still be seen today, although some of the outbuildings and some elements of the interior have been renovated.

One of the moments of struggle at this hotel occurred on September 19, 1945, namely the Flag Incident. The incident began when a group of Dutch people led by Mr. Ploegman raised the Red and White Blue flag at the top to the right of the hotel. The Indonesian fighters broke the blue color of the Dutch flag, which was red, white and blue, thus the flag became red and white, namely the flag of the Republic of Indonesia. The flag incident also resulted in the killing of Mr. Ploegman.
