I am overwhelmingly disappointed in the quality control Airbnb exhibits on their listings. My friends made a booking on a room in Richmond, BC, Canada for August 14-28, 2019 months in advance. First, they landed at the airport, and the host texted them an address different from the one previously communicated. Then, they arrived to this new address, and it was evident that the room the host directed them to was CLEARLY DIFFERENT from the room advertised. At first, this almost seemed like an upgrade, but it turns out this host was just unprofessional and greedy. After 1 night, the shower head broke. After contacting the host about a problem with the alarming number of spiders in the space, the host has not done anything to clean up the space. Airbnb has also not responded with a solution or refund. In fact, even any gesture for compensation has not been made after multiple hours have passed since my friends notified Airbnb. The entire scam was only possible due to a lack of quality control by Airbnb for their listings, and greedy hosts are allowed to continue surviving on their online service.
There was no indication on the listing that the host would be this irresponsible. The host is actually rated more than 4-stars. In addition to lack of quality control, Airbnb also allowed false advertising to take place. My friends were directed to a space that was nowhere near the quality and cleanliness depicted in the listing's photos (it was not even the same room/address). This situation is turning what was supposed to be a relaxing holiday into a logistical disaster. Besides being upset with the host, it is also disheartening that Airbnb neither cares enough about the services offered on their platform nor their clients to rectify this issue.
***There are great hosts on Airbnb. Airbnb needs to do better with reports about the bad ones.
