Melynda R Review of Palazzo Versace

Three of us booked a high tea with high expectations. What a disappointment. We arrived at 11.00am for our booking and went across to an unmanned counter and waited for 5 - 10 minutes till somone finally noticed us.
We were escorted to our table and then found we had been given two different menu versions. When the waitress came over she advised which one was correct. We ordered 3 couture high teas...one with a mocktail, the other 2 with a cocktail, a soy latte, 1 earl gray tea and 1 rose vanilla tea as outlined on the menu and included in the high tea.
The food came out in about 20 minutes and looked amazing. But where were our drinks??? The server also noticed our drinks hadn't arrived so said she would get onto this for us straight away.
Thinking they were on the way we tucked in. Another 20 minutes ticked by....we were getting pretty thirsty.
The server passed by and we managed to grab her attention again. She once more advised she would look into it...i asked if we could have some water while we were waiting. "Of course" she advised and again waltzed off.
We were incredulous at this stage....were we really sitting in a 6 star hotel paying $65 per head for a renowned high tea??
Another 15 minutes....still no drinks or even the water we asked for. I managed to locate some glasses and water jugs at the end of the bar where the servers filled up glasses for patrons and helped myself. Staff whizzed by but not one person stopped and offered to help. I took the 3 waters back to our table.
Another 10 minutes passed by and two cocktails finally appeared. We let her know that we were also still waiting on a mocktail, a coffee and two pots of tea. By thus stage totally fed up we asked the server if we could speak to the manager. She got him straight away.
Letting him know what had happened he offered 1 high tea for free.
After all this our other beverages arrived....all i could do was laugh at this stage as the tea type i ordered wasn't what i received.
We left feeling pretty deflated with a bad taste in our mouth possbly caused by the slightly burnt apple mille feuille or the extremly bitter orange eclairs. We didn't even finish everything as the experience had pretty much been ruined by poor service from a non caring staff and manager.
My advice?? Run for the hills... literally! Surely in the gold coast hinterland there is a gorgeous welcoming cute teahouse offering smiling friendly staff, a caring demeanour and delicious devonshire teas at a fraction of the cost?
That's where i will be aiming to head next time.
