I regularly visit Timeout Market in Lisbon (four times a year for the past few years) and have patronized the Chicago location about five times since it opened while comparing it to Lisbon s.
I m very disappointed from the food selection to specialty drinks at the bars.
I m sorry, the food offerings aren t very good and are overpriced. Abe Conlon s Portuguese interpretation just doesn t do it for me after extensively dining throughout Portugal; the natas have this white cream filling added to the custard whereby it is a highly inauthentic offering; the broccoli rabe added to the rice would likely remain untouched by locals in Portugal.
The Split Rail chicken burger, Sugar Cube desserts, SECRET SOUND drinks are just okay.
I m sure many enjoy the food offerings (the pizzas seem popular) but I just find them uninspiring and lacking in flavor. The only plus is the weekday happy hour drink promotion.
Ambience: lively, busy and noisy, but what I don t understand are the number of people who loudly shout as they converse which is distracting to others having conversations.
Would I return: maybe during warmer weather when the rooftop area is open so as to enjoy drinks and skyline.
