Kevan Elliott Review of Pearson Ford

Walked away very disappointed today. After test driving various models I was pretty set on the F-150 but the price was over $5,500 on a quote I have on a GMC Sierra 1500 SLT. They have very similar trim options with a few differences. Maybe this has become common since my last vehicle purchase (2015 Buick Encore) but I felt like there was no budging on price. All of my cost "savings" were from rebates which do not impact Pearson's bottom line. I could not get the sales rep to come even remotely close to competing on price.
He also spent 50% of the time criticizing GMC (one example was talking about their cash allowance rebate email which I showed him and he referred to as "funny money") and that their offer did not match their internet price. That would be more compelling if it wasn't that Pearson quoted me $1K+ over their internet pricing as well.
I felt like I negotiated in good faith and did not even ask to match the same price on the Sierra, but to try and come at a happy medium. It was almost impossible to talk to him about out-the-door pricing as he kept wanting to steer the conversation towards monthly cost and price before tax, doc fees, etc. I'm sorry if this is the preferred method at the dealership but I know my finances well and negotiating the out-the-door price is the best way for me to ensure that I am not overpaying.
