Savitribai Phule Pune University is an important educational center located in Ganeshkhind area. The university was started on 10th February 1949. Initially 12 districts were attached to the university. After some time Shivaji University was established in Kolhapur and the number of districts was reduced to 5 districts. After 1990, the number was reduced to 3 districts. At present, colleges and institutes in the districts of * Pune, Nashik, Ahmednagar * are affiliated to the University.
