I find the praise for this place mystifying. Yes ...

I find the praise for this place mystifying. Yes it's scenery is beautiful, and yes some of the employees go above and beyond.... BUT it's expensive (my family of 5 was charged over $6K during a 3 night stay - with 2 rooms, and eating and activites) for well, less than superlative service. The rooms are shabby, the bathrooms outdated and small. Most of the activities are sort of worn, from puzzles to skeet shooting to skiing - all with older, run down equipment, missing pieces, broken straps. Our stay is fine, the rooms and food are pedestrian. Getting reservations to dinner or activities is nearly impossible -- because they are overbooked. As one exception are the golf club rentals, which were really nice Taylor Mades. But if you are asked to pay a premium, I expect premium service, and frankly that's where The Homestead falls down. If it were, say half the price, I would probably give the resort a 3 star rating, if it had superior customer service, I would have given another star, and if the rooms and facilities were superlative, new, and other than feeling like I was at my mother'said, I would have added another star.
