I have been staying at the Affinia Shelburne for almost 10 years. My last stay was 12/21-12/26/16. My wife and I love the location - the neighborhood is away from major tourist areas and more quiet with great restaurants nearby. The staff have always been pleasant and helpful, which was the case at our last stay. Some staff members remembered us and it was like being welcomed home. The only con for us, which may send us looking for another place to stay in the neighborhood is the new facilities fee of $25/day. This fee supposedly covers wifi in the room, the "free" wine hour from 5-6 PM daily, and a daily $10 allowance at "the Cupboard" the lobby snack shop. We do not care about or need wifi in our room, and if we needed wifi access we were happy to go to the lobby. We were rarely in the hotel between 5-6 so rarely took advantage of the "free" wine. Finally, we tried to remember to use our $10/day from the Cupboard since we were paying for it anyway. It was difficult to assemble items that added to just $10 and we didn't always remember to get something. We still have an unopened jar of nuts because most of what was available were snacks that we do not eat or do not care about. If the management wants to charge another $25/ night then be honest about it and just raise the room rate. We felt like we were being nickel and dimed and weren't happy about it. It's not in keeping with the atmosphere we've been used to at the Affinia for the past 10 years. We'll be looking for other hotels in the neighborhood.
