I'm giving 2 stars instead of 4 because of the way the starter treated my foursome. We played the front 9 on a cart-path-only day (which obviously slows down pace for everyone) in 2:20. We then stopped for 5 minutes at the turn to patronize their restaurant, buying $70 worth of food and drinks (on top of the $300 we had paid in greens fees). Upon heading back to our cart, the starter stopped us to inform us that people were "bunching up" behind our group. We were shocked and relayed that we weren't holding anyone up -- we had waited on 7 of the 9 preceding holes. He dismissed our statement and indicated we needed to pick up the pace. We finished in 4:40 (on a cart-path-only day), and waited on the group ahead of us for 14 of 18 holes. I strongly suspect that we were singled out for this erroneous and unnecessary quibble from the starter because we had two women in our group. (This is obviously conjecture, but I have a hard time imagining a foursome of men being told everyone was bunching up behind them and that they need to pick up the pace when such an assertion was demonstrably false.) It was a 30-second exchange that definitely put a significant -- and again, wholly unnecessary and incorrect -- blight on our day at Lone Tree.
Other than that sub-par experience (lame pun intended), it was a nice course! The greens were a little beat up, but fast and fun. We played just a few days after a massive rain storm and there was standing whatever abound to the left and right, but I don't recall seeing a single puddle in the fairway, which is incredibly impressive. For the price, I would have liked to have seen something with a little more imagination, but the overall quality was about what I d expect for this price range.
