As an frequent traveler, I have used Airbnb and Homeaway all over the world. I was recently told that I broken a $1400 coffee table and ordered to pay for it without regard to my statements. The host and Airbnb held me hostage. They kept my $500 security deposit and are now trying to make me pay $900 more.

This is so unfair. I am a 68 year old and had no way of breaking the table.
Pictures were produced of a broken leg after I left. I found no way to discuss this situation directly with a person at Airbnb. The web site took me in circles back to HELP.

Beware of hosts and Airbnb trying to extort additional money from guests.
Maybe staying in hotels is safer after all.
