My husband was diagnosed with multiple myeloma the beginning of April and has ended up in the hospital pretty much since his diagnosis. His oncologist Dr Kyasa is a soft spoken extremely kind and understanding person. He considers everything about the person to make the best treatment for his patients and their families. His nurses Sara and Nikki are kind and compassionate also. I have not met the others but I bet they are the same. We also met Dr Hughes and his nurses Leanne, Michelle and I forgot the 3rd ones name. They are also kind compassionate and caring.
The nurses in the hospital are all kind, compassionate, caring individuals. There was only one that we feel was average, but she was not a bad nurse she just didn't meet the higher standards the other nurses are at.
One person there that I want to mention by name is Christian, he works in transportation. My husband was sent down for a CT scan (he was not ambulatory) the xray tech said he needed to be on a gurney to put on the table for the CT. Christian did everything he could to help my husband not have to go back upstairs to have to come back down. He was very caring and went way above and beyond to help my husband. I hope whomever reads this, that is in authority there, will give him a raise and let him know he is doing an excellent job.
This is just the beginning of our journey with this disease but I wanted to put this here for now. I may make a comment again in the future.
Most of the people we have interacted with at Shawnee Mission Medical Center are very empathetic people.
