HCPC is absolute garbage. Dr. Smeal is a horrible doctor. I went in and every step of the way was belittled and spoke to like I had no idea what I was talking about. At no point during my admission process did anyone ask me what my diagnoses were. While the admissions process was fast, it was not thorough. The first doctor I spoke to was going to switch me from my current list of meds to just seraquel, which is specifically for bipolar depression. My first night in the hospital I received no medication aside from Benadryl. They did not give me my normal meds, nor anything else. The next morning I was able to meet my doctor (someone different from who I first saw) and she was extremely rude and condescending to the point that I actually said something to her about it. If you know me at all, you know that it takes a lot for me to say something about mistreatment. When I went in to the hospital I was prescribed Abilify, Zoloft, Gabapentin, and Amnitriptalyn (not sure how to spell that), by my current psychiatrist. Dr. Smeal took me off of EVERYTHING except the Abilify, which she then cut my dose in half. Her reasoning behind this was that people with a personality component (aka BPD) receive less help from medication. This a completely untrue statement with no medical basis. She also said that I don t need to be on all of those medications because the Abilify should work . As if my doctor would put me on more meds if it was working. She also put me on Trazodone, which I cannot take because it causes massive drops in my blood pressure, and put me on hydroxezine, which makes me dizzy and drowsy and does not work to treat my anxiety. When I mentioned that I could not take the trazodone, she finally allowed me to take the Benadryl instead, but cut my dose of that in half. She made rude comments about my requests for the meds that I know work, and refused to put me back on my antidepressant.

Overall I found this hospital to be negligent and unhelpful for adults. The minors were treated completely different, and for minors I would absolutely recommend this hospital. For adults, they just don t care.
