The people answering the phone are not compassionate or helpful. I'm referring everyone away from SCVMC. For details, read below.

I just moved in from out of the area and I called the hematology/oncology center to inquire about an appointment to a hematologist. I was informed I needed a referral from my PCP. I informed that my insurance doesn't require this. They wouldn't speak to me without a referral from my PCP. I had my PCP send a referral.

I waited a couple days then called back to see if the referral was there. I was then informed that they don't take them there and was given the medical records number to call to see if the referral made it. After calling the medical records, I was informed it wasn't there and to call my PCP.

I waited a week for everything to catch up before calling again to try to make an appointment. When I called the office they had my personal information in their system this time, but was still told without a referral I still couldn't make an appointment. I informed how did they get my information in their system without said referral from my PCP.

I was then told again that I needed a referral and if it wasn't marked urgent, I would be waiting up to three months for an appointment! The one answering the phone was very terse. We arrived at an impasse. It was VERY clear by the lack of compassion and understanding they do not want my business or anyone else that I may refer. I'm referring everyone away from SCVMC.
