I had very much confidence in PKP Intercity until recently. I bought two berths two weeks in advance for two people from Warsaw to Budapest and back, traveling by night (Chopin train, departure 27.09, return 30.09). We wanted to get a good night's sleep, because we had a strictly planned stay in Budapest, from the morning business matters, the introduction to the hotel was only possible after 1pm. What astonishment we had when the train was stationed at the Warszawa Centralna station with a 25-minute delay ... without a wagon with couches. Instead, an ordinary 1st class wagon with seats was given. The passengers were surprised in vain, after entering the wagon No. 357, they looked around for the places to lie, for which they paid. Some paid extra for the compartments with 4 beds and not six. The train manager's interventions, of course, did not help. Not only that, the manager was amazed at our claims, because we have a first-class car, not a second one. The translations did not help, we paid for the places lying, not sitting. With a 13-hour night trip there is a huge difference. Personally, I decided to travel by train ONLY because of the possibility of doing it lying down and not sitting. I suffer from hip joint inflammation and a sitting trip was just a nightmare for me. By bus, you can get to Budapest for 80 PLN. None of the PKP Intercity service staff had an idea to attach a wagon with berths somewhere on the train, for which several dozen people paid. The train traveling from Warsaw crossed half of Poland before it reached the border - PKP can not organize a spare sleeper or couchette wagon? I guess in such a situation should provide passengers with a higher driving comfort (sleeping car), if there are no couches, not lower? We were coming back from Budapest 4 days later and ... the situation repeated itself. Instead of couches - a wagon with seats. But Ceske Drahy shone on the platform in Budapest with beautiful sleeping cars with free seats. After returning to Warsaw, we lost almost an hour to file a complaint. And we were still instructed by the staff in the "intervention" room that we have no right, despite the extreme tiredness after a sleepless night and late arrival (due to the need to file a complaint), talk with raised voices. Nothing more nothing less. In summary - I advise everyone to buy seats in PKP Intercity only to the Czech border, and there transfer to the train Ceske Drahy. It will be comfortable, and perhaps much cheaper. Additional reservation to PKP Intercity - check tickets at night three times (Polish, Slovak and Hungarian team). To this roaring speakers in compartments, awakening podsypiaj cych passengers at each station, and which there is no how to mute (knobs are, but they do not work). The lights can not be turned off completely, only dimmed, there is also no heating regulation - you have to fan the window. And let me add that no one before the departure of the train offered passengers that they can, for example, change the travel schedule if they are unable to travel overnight at a sitting position. We have just been faced with the fact that there are no places to lie and will not be. I give PKP Intercity one star only because we somehow brought us to this Budapest and back. I can not trust more of these lines when planning a further journey. PS After 3 months, I will add that PKP Intercity kindly returned money for couches, which were not, but - deducting the payment for the first class !!! For my protest, I was sent a comprehensive letter with provisions regarding the rights and obligations of the Polish State Railways, which shows that I could resign before the train started. And that the train was 25 minutes late and moved before we knew what we were getting into, that's a detail. I wonder who would pay me back for a hotel in Budapest (booking without refunds) and for unnecessarily taken leave from work. I will not deal with them for PLN 60, although I should. Nothing more nothing less.
