The lions dear to Corto Maltese always stand guard...

The lions dear to Corto Maltese always stand guard at the entrance. They are not Venetian lions but spoils of war brought back from Morea (Greece) or Constantinople. The arsenal cannot be visited, although it is a reference in the city. The arsenal forms an enormous enclave in Venice, with its rope-making.
Today it is occupied by the national navy. It is only open to the public during biennials or other major events. It is a very beautiful, very peaceful and relaxing place.
