Helen S.D. Smith Review of Hoo Farm
We had a fantastic time yesterday. Hoo Farm closes...
We had a fantastic time yesterday. Hoo Farm closes for part of the year but the animal experiences continue. We booked two animal experiences and from our first confirmation email until leaving the farm the customer service was great. The animals were lovely and they were allowed to behave as they wished.
Meerkat, Serval and Lemur experience:
The lemurs enjoyed eating celery from us but otherwise ran, jumped and climbed around the enclosure we were in as they pleased. The meerkats had very district personalities, one enjoyed snuggles with the other couple while the other kept running up our back and standing on our shoulder as a lookout. The Serval was quite sleepy before her food so she enjoyed a few strokes and ear rubs in her bed of hay while our guide told us more about their natural habitat and her twin brother watched from afar. After our hour we said goodbye to the other couple and started on our next experience.
Binturong, Raccoon dog and Brushtail Possum experience:
We started with the Binturong. She was huge and beautiful, powerful and playful. Definitely an animal we hadn't come across before and she was really interesting, though please note that glasses should be removed so wear contacts if you can. Next we had the raccoon dog and he was adorable, burrowing into a little cloth hammock and nibbling on corners before climbing around as he pleased, I could watch him all day, but next we went to see the Brushtail possum. This one was probably the unexpected highlight of this experience. It is a small very agile, fluffy and cute little animal. I have never felt such a soft dense fur and it had amazing little paws with almost monkey-like hands. It was quite happy jumping around from person to person and working it's way through the fruitbowl. Please note that the Brushtail possum is nocturnal and that it is kept in a dark room with a red heat lamp so if your night vision is poor, go in last so you can adjust to it. Well worth it though.
