I took my truck in with some questions on some play in my steering. They took a look and came back with an $800 quote to replace my steering gear box. My steering gear box was brand new, installed only a couple months prior. I asked if they saw any other issues or possible reasons for the play in the steering and they said no. I took it to another mechanic who let me come look at the truck while it was jacked up and he found an obvious reason in the idler arm.

I also took my car in for an alignment after having the struts replaced. Came back with it pulling to one side and the steering will not straight. they have a mileage warranty on their alignments so they did it again for free, but it still pulls to one side. Not impressed.
