I took my mother to the ER on Saturday afternoon. ...

I took my mother to the ER on Saturday afternoon. We were afraid that she was having a blood clot. My mother had a very serious blood clot in March of 2016. She was in Piedmont Henry for almost two weeks during that time. Because they helped save her life then, I assumed that they would be the best providers in this situation. I was utterly mistaken. NO ONE, and I do mean NO ONE asked her what her current dosage of blood thinners was OR ANY other prescription medications that she was on while we were in the ER yesterday. The hospital did make sure that someone came by and made us pay though. The ER had no record or information on her previous hospitalization at this hospital. Or if they did, no one bothered to read it. They took her blood and we waited. And waited. And waited. Then more waiting. Finally the doctor came by. We had to give the doctor the basic version of her medical history. Which no one asked for either. We explained why we were concerned because of her medical condition and history. The doctor ordered an ultrasound on her leg. So we waited. And waited. And waited. Finally the doctor came by an hour and a half later to tell us that the ultrasound person had gone home early for the day. It was before 5 pm when we were told this. We were told that we needed to come back to the hospital at 8 am the following morning to have the ultrasound done and that we didn t need paperwork. All we needed to do was tell them that she was at the ER on Saturday and they would see her right away. We returned to the hospital at 8 am to have the test done, and no one was at the outpatient testing center. The only place that seemed to have anyone working was the ER. So we talked to the intake person at the desk and she had no record of the test being ordered by the ER doctor from the previous day. After waiting for almost two and a half hours someone finally came and got my mother for her test. The ultrasound tech told us that she didn t see any blood clots, but there was an inconsistency with her valves. The tech told us that we couldn t leave until a doctor reviewed the results and told us we could leave. So we waited another hour in the ER lobby until a woman, who I assume was a nurse because she never identified herself, told us that we didn t need to wait and to just go home. Needless to say, I am grateful that there was no blood clot, but I honestly have never experienced such miscommunication and seemly uninformed people at Piedmont Henry in the many years that my parents have been going there.
