I'm a massage therapist and small spa owner myself...

I'm a massage therapist and small spa owner myself, so massage is always my top vacation priority. The facility was nice, clean, and relaxing. The staff was pleasant. I booked the signature massage because of the combination of techniques it would use. The massage was good, being that the business is classified as a Med Spa, I expected a massage catered to therapeutic needs with a touch of pampering. That's what I got, but not in a combination catered to my individual needs; I believe there may have been a specific protocol routine for this massage. There was no intake form to fill out and no pre massage consultation. I was just told to get on the table. I decided to wait a few minutes to survey the therapists skills and natural intuition to find areas of tension. The back portion of the massage was fairly thorough with adequate pressure. She occasionally honed in on some active trigger points, but only briefly before moving on; it was a little back and forth from one area to another and back again, but over all I was satisfied with the back portion of the massage. I mentioned in conversation that I was from out of town and feet and legs were sore from walking, and that I'd recently tweaked a muscle in my neck. She told me she'd been doing this for 16 years, to trust her, and that they were a very famous NY spa. These areas were grazed over with little pressure. After a brief posterior neck massage, I asked if she could do the front of my neck. She asked if I wanted more neck and did mostly the same thing she already did to the back of my neck again. At this point I realized there was a a bit of a language barrier so I let it go just enjoyed the pampering. It was still a nice massage and experience; I will definitely return and would be happy to see the same therapist again(Annie), but I recommend to anyone seeking specific therapeutic work to call ahead to express their needs. I booked on-line and did not realize there might be some communication issues with the therapists. I'd also recommend to the business, the use of letter sized laminated body charts for clients to circle with a dry erase marker the areas they'd like their therapist to focus on.
