Michelle Delrey Review of Pancake restaurant de Stroopst...
SO I don't normally write reviews but I feel like ...
SO I don't normally write reviews but I feel like something should be fixed at this restaurant. My friends and I arrived and waited outside in the rain for a good thirty minutes for a table. It was fair enough because the restaurant was full and obviously they're very popular. HOWEVER, as we were about to be seated, two white women behind us came into the line and asked how long it would be. They were immediately told it would be 30 minutes but not to worry because their much bigger restaurant with 200 seats was only just a five minute walk from the location we were at. All my friends and I dropped our mouths in shock wondering where that information had been for us the entire time.
Then came the service. So if you hadn't noticed by now there's something different about my group of friends and I (hint: we aren't white). We were neglected for a good fifteen minutes. Not only that, but a table that was sat after us, and next to us, had received their food by the time we were even able to place an order. That's how long we waited. The blonde waitress who I'm calling out because she seemed to be the racist one took more priority in serving all the other white people before she even offered us a glass of water.
So eventually we get our food and honestly the food here is bomb so they get points for that. When it came time to pay the bill the blonde waitress came over to take our payment. Our bill came up to 47 euros and we wanted to split the check. She then told us she couldn't split it. So not only is it a card only restaurant but apparently a restaurant where you're meant to put the entire bill on one card? She got frustrated took out our card, told us to figure it out, then went to the side to clean a table. So clearly cleaning the table was more important than helping us. Everyone else was brought their bill and paid without a problem but she was acting like she didn't even want us in the building.
We ended up having to walk downstairs to ask someone how we could pay, and let me just say they're lucky we even paid at all. Another waitress said it wasn't a problem and of course we were able to split the bill. Then when I went to put my card in the machine the blonde waitress pulled it out, cancelled the transaction, and put another customers card in (hint: the other customer was white). After that customer had paid, I was then able to pay.
Why does this story sound like 1950s America? Idk. Basically by the time I was done here I was shaking for two hours due to the amount of stress and completely in shock at the fact that my friends and I had felt racially profiled and were treated as second class citizens. So moral of the story is... If you're white have a good time. If you're colored then think twice about going here. However, they do have another location five minutes away.
28-04-18 was the date we went and left at 3pm. So my suggestion is that whoever owns this place should sit down and have a very long chat with the girl who was working at the time.
