Arriving at 8pm, there was only one staff member dealing with a queue of 5 people ahead of us. Not a great first impression. Parking is not plentiful for such a large hotel: we managed to secure the last spot in the outdoor section. The room smells musty but has all essentials and everything is clean. We popped to thr bar at 9pm to see if we could grab a snack, but all eateries were closed and the bar closed at 10pm. The bar lady was lovely, though. Next morning we decided to 'grab and go' at the snack bar; the food was tasty but the server wasn't friendly. We then asked the receptionist at the restaurant if we needed to book for dinner and were told we could eat the Thanksgiving dinner at 11am (it was 10am & we'd just eaten) as they were fully booked at night. We went to see if the main reception could help and were told the only option was pizza, snack bar or to eat off site. When my husband said that wasn't what we'd expected, he was told to go back to the restaurant to speak to the manager there.
The receptionist then made a derogatory comment as we walked away. As seasoned hotel guests, (this is our 12th in the last month and 3rd in Hawaii) we assume that it is a given that hotel guests can eat comfortably in the on site restaurant. If this isn't the case, it is remiss that guests aren't informed by email beforehand that reservations are required. Consequently, we ate off site at a fabulous restaurant 5 minutes walk away called Leilani's, where the staff couldn't have been kinder or more professional.
