UPDATE: The property manager in corporate contacte...

UPDATE: The property manager in corporate contacted me and agreed with my case. Unfortunately, the staff at Huntington Villas were not educated on what can be deducted. I was issued a refund for the incorrect deduction although it did take another month to get it. But I received it and everything is good now.

I decided to move into a house and broke my lease. I paid the buyout fee and talked with the community director to make sure I knew what needed to be done in order to get my security deposit back. She went over the normal wear and tear and proration. She also encouraged me to make sure the apartment was left clean "decent" enough where there was not mess or dirt etc. I cleaned that apartment and left it spotless. The maintenance supervisor did the walk through and told me that everything looked good and maybe needed paint and carpet cleaning but that was it. He said he would write up the walk through and turn it in and then he left. 2 Weeks later, I receive a refund check in the mail with a statement that showed cleaning charges of $110. I quickly called the community director and she wasn't sure why I was charged and she couldn't pull up pictures on the system because the maintenance supervisor either never took any or didn't upload them. She told me that she was not out to get me for my deposit and if anything would only charge me half. The next day the maintenance supervisor called me and quickly started telling me that he told me that I needed a receipt from professional cleaning service which he never did. Nor did the community director. I was furious and I called the community director back and of course she was busy. I left a message. She didn't call back. I called several more times and never got a call back. Finally, I called again and she told the person that answered the phone that she wasn't going to make any adjustments. No where on my lease did it state that I had to have a professional cleaning company clean the apartment before I left. She didn't even tell me that when we talked. Now I'm out $110 for charges that were not communicated or posted or in lease. This review is lucky it's getting 1 star.
