Renting a cottage in Canada and we also live in Canada. We had to contact Air BnB because when booking the cottage we were quoted in Canadian dollars by the Canadian owner of the cottage, however, due to the settings on the Air BnB website, it was in American dollars, which we didn t notice and we were charged to our credit card in USD. When
We contacted the company to find out why we were charged in USD they explained the settings have to be changed to Canadian funds. We didn t realize that, explained we are Canadians renting from a Canadian in Canada and didn t make sense to pay USD if they could just do a refund or switch it over to Canadian funds themselves. We provided the email/texts between the owner and ourselves the proof of the Canadian quote. It was taken to a manager level apparently because the agent online didn t have the authority to do the switch.
Received a response saying it was our fault not checking therefore no refund or switch to Canadian dollars.
They didn t even consider the fact this was a first time booking and since we were renting from a Canadian we assumed the sight was straight forward in Canadian. If we had realized it was an American company then we would have been vigilant. So to be punished for not being vigilant is actually very sad. When it would be super easy to just redo the booking in Canadian which is a very simple procedure and doesn t cost anything to anyone. It s bad customer service. We were not scamming. It was an honest mistake that would have taken max ten minutes to correct to have happy customers. Won t be using AirBnB again. Be aware if you are using this company for booking it isn t always a Canadian site you are logging into.
