While the Globe Theater itself has great Elizabeth...

While the Globe Theater itself has great Elizabethan ambience, if you're thinking to book Henry IV (Hotspur) or Henry V (Falstaff) for summer 2019, consider this: The current Globe management will subject you to a prolonged exercise in political correctness by casting women in men's roles. That's right, women will play Hotspur and Falstaff. In summer 2018 women played Hamlet and Horatio, and either Rosencranz or Guildenstern was played by an actor who we were asked to believe was mute, as he used only sign language on stage. And of course Ophelia was played by a guy. This is trendy and oh, so morally superior and caring, but I'm sorry, it does not produce satisfying drama. I am well aware that boys played women's roles in Shakespeare's day, but I would not find that appealing either. So if you're among the sane minority who believe that women and men are different, and vive la difference, skip the Globe and go see A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Regents Park. It's cheaper and much more comfortable. And the play will not suck you into neomarxist sanctimony about gender equivalence.
