Jon Bunch Review of Mecure Kingfisher Bay Resort

I hate when company's gouge people. This resort is an example of that behaviour.
The rooms are 2.5 star, with the highlight being a decent shower. The Queen size beds are two doubles that are fixed together. It's dodgy at best. Our AirCon worked but the swings were broken. The adjoining room doors were broken and dangerous. They were reported the first day, again the second and were never attended to. Kids weren't able to open them without struggle and a few tips were bleeding because of them not having working door stops. Staff figured I should shove the bin in between the door and frame. Phail.
The PVC shutters on the windows were such a horrible idea, especially when you plant the palm trees too close so any wind causes sounds like a hurricane ripping the roof off to echo throughout the night. The same engineers that designed Brisbane's ring road probably designed the resort.
The restaurants were a joke (Moheno and Sand Bar) especially considering the prices. Nothing was fresh, all canned/frozen and bottled stuff. The food, especially the specials were dry, overcooked and took way too long to arrive (Moheno). Several times orders were either forgotten or extremely late after everyone else was served. The exception was the barramundi fillets. I suggest ordering it for every meal. (Moheno)
The breakfast was over priced, simple things like syrup for the pancake machine was too much to ask. There was one coffee machine for the whole resort that functioned ~40% of the time. Often there were not enough cups available for things like juice and water and querying for more resulted in disappointment.
On checkout it was obvious why the staff had pushed patrons to room charge since they gouge their customers for a CC surcharge on checkout, even for Visa and Mastercard. It's must be to hard to use a calculator on an island to figure out how to charge enough for overpriced rooms since 90+% of the patrons would be using a Credit card at checkout. Bloody gouging thieves. Accor, you never cease to amaze me. I did complain about this when checking out, seems quite a few others felt the same way, seems mgmt doesn't give a stuff.
One last comment... The resort was family friendly, however, when I tried to order a double at dinner, was refused. Apparently, no drinks could be served with more than two shots. When I travel with children, I expect not to be treated like a bloody child too. I'm paying, so make me a drink the way I want it. Bloody nanny resort. Be sure to bring your own drinks and make them yourself. My long Island iced tea, 16$, tasted like some tequila crap and was not finished. It's the bloody little things that do my head in. Why is it so hard to get drinks Right? I might bring a cocktail book is IF I come back (next time might just camp).
